It's hard to believe we've come to the end! We'd love to hear what you thought about the challenges, website, and prizes so that we can make it even better next year! Please take a few minutes and give us: Your Feedback! You can enter your comments on the "submissions" page and submit just as you did for the challenges.
It's time for prize level three. If you have completed at least one challenge for each of the 7 weeks, you qualify for prize level three. Just print the confirmation sheet and bring it into the library to receive your prize. The final day to receive prizes will be July 30th.
Also make plans to attend the Summer Reading Club Finale Pool Party. The Young Adult party (for ages 11-18) is Friday, July 22nd at 8pm at the Algona Aquatic Center. We will also announce the winner of our Finale Prize drawing that evening. Read! Challenge 1: This is the final week of challenges. Did you complete your reading list? Summer doesn't end with the end of Summer Reading Club, so go ahead and start another book and keep reading. Just let us know that you read for at least 2 1/2 hours and you'll complete the challenge. If you choose this as your option, just select "Read" as your challenge when you're in the "submissions" part of this site. Watch! Challenge 2: Watch a martial arts movie. What made you decide to watch that one? Had you seen it before? What did you think? You can find other suggestions on www.rottentomatoes.com. Choose the "Watch" challenge and submit your comments in the box on the "submissions" page of this site. Listen! Challenge 3: Create an audio version of a chapter of one of your favorite sports books. Or choose one of your favorite children's books to create an audio version. Then upload it from the "submissions" page of this site. Tell us the name of your book and anything interesting about creating the audio version in the comment box. Choose the "Listen" challenge on the "submissions" page of this site to make your submission. Do! Challenge 4: Your final challenge is to create a photoshopped picture that promotes the Algona Public Library. A free photo editing site that you might try is http://ipiccy.com/. You have two options: 1. Use a photo (from the Public Domain, not one of yourself or any other minors under 18) and alter it so that it is suddenly an advertisement for the Algona Public Library. 2. Pop a picture of someone into a different, totally unexpected picture (again, this can't be a picture of you or anyone you know). Choose the "Do" challenge and then upload your picture on the "submissions" page of this site. I ran into some trouble posting week 7 this morning. Week 7 will be available on Monday when I'm back in the library. If you are completing the Read Challenge and have read for 2 1/2 hours, you can still submit that challenge before Monday. Thanks for your patience.
Time for another prize drawing! Every challenge that you submit gets your name into the drawing. This week's prize is a Barnes and Noble gift card. The drawing will be on Friday.
Read! Challenge 1: You can always choose what you want to read, but this week we recommend reading some fanfic at https://www.fanfiction.net. Many young writers like to build on existing characters and stories and are able to give new depth to characters as they create their own stories. Who knows, you might read something from the next great YA writer. Just let us know that you read for at least 2 1/2 hours and you'll complete the challenge. If you choose this as your option, just select "Read" as your challenge when you're in the "submissions" page of this site. Watch! Challenge 3: Choose or write a theme song for yourself. Think about the music in movies like "Rocky" and "Chariots of Fire." How does the music fit the activity? Challenge 4: Let's think about healthy eating again. Challenge yourself to eat 5 fruit and vegetable servings each day this week.
