If you have ever wanted to help choose the books that receive awards, here is your chance. Voting has started to choose the Teen's Top Ten books for 2018. Each year teen book clubs meet and choose their favorite books of the year to be included on the list of nominations for Teen's Top Ten. Then, starting in August and finishing at the end of Teen Read Week, teens can vote on their favorites from the list of nominations. The Top Ten Books for 2018 will then be announced as a finally to Teen Read Week. Each year I try to be sure to include reading from the nomination list. I have enjoyed All Rights Reserved by Gregory Scott Katsoulis, How to Make a Wish by Ashley Herring Blake, Warcross by Marie Lu, and a few others from this list. So, if you are a teen, there's still time to read from the list and cast your vote. If you aren't a teen, I still recommend reading from this list as teen's choose the best ten books for the year.

For many people, birthdays are a celebration with cake and presents and candles and wishes. But, what if you knew your wish would come true? Of course, there are rules, but that does not stop the wishing. As You Wish is written by Chelsea Sedoti. Welcome to Madison, a small town in the middle of the Mojave desert. Madison could be any small town, but Madison is special and the people of the town have a secret that they are keeping. When a young person turns 18, they walk into a cave and make a wish. A wish that they know will come true. So, what do you wish for? Money, athletic ability, to get into an ivy league school, love? That's the dilemma facing our protagonist. He knows so many people who have wished and then regretted and he doesn't want to make the same mistake. How will his wish affect not only his future, but the future of his family and the town? It's an interesting thought to consider how one wish can change your life forever. |
