Tell the Story to Its End by Simon P. Clark has a story line designed to capture the reader. Oli has been taken to a new house, by his mother, where he encounters someone (or something) living in the attic. Erin fills the attic and he wants to hear Oli's story...to the end. The question is, "What happens when he comes to the end?" Oli is searching and Erin will help him find the answers, but he has a choice to make.
Another book that gets into the head of the reader is A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. This book has caught the attention of the movie makers and will be out on the big screen in the fall of 2016. It deals with the story of a young boy who faces the death of his single mom. Imagine the pain of losing the one person in your life and how you would cope with that.
A more traditional monster story is Teen Frankenstein by Chandler Baker. Tor Frankenstein is a scientific genius, and she gets to test her skill when she accidentally hits someone with her car and kills him. Can her scientific knowledge bring him back to life? This is a classic retelling set in modern times. Makes for a very fun story.
