The first is Poetry Basics: Limericks by Valerie Bodden. I have fond memories of limericks from when I was a child. We would be given an assignment in school to write a limerick and my mother would get involved. She was good at writing limericks. Maybe someday, she should write a limerick book. Anyway, this book has some fun examples as it gives instruction for how to write limericks. It's written in a fun, easy-to-understand way, and would be a great instructor for anyone who wants to try this type of writing.
Two other books that I will mention today are from a series called, Understanding Poetry by Jennifer Fandel. The first book is Puns, Allusions, and Other Word Secrets. This book talks about how words come alive. They add color and sound. They create pictures for the reader. This book is filled with beautiful pictures and uses poetry to teach poetry. The second book continues with Metaphors, Similes, and Other Word Pictures. These two books will help the writer to bring words to life for the reader.
