Ship Breaker is written by Paolo Bacigalupi. This book presents a futuristic world filled with the struggle for survival. Sounds like a typical apocalyptic book, right? It also contains all the elements of struggle between classes, struggle with authority, and young people finding out about themselves and what they believe about the world. Ship Breaker is the first in a series.
The second book on my reading list is Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. This book comes from the fantasy genre. Fantasy isn't usually high on my list of interests, but I really enjoyed this series. Our heroine was an orphan and grew up hiding the gift that she had. She hid it so well, that she denied its existence. But, the truth is always revealed and the power that she possessed changed not only her life, but the lives of all those that matter to her.
The final selection for today's recommended list is A Curse Dark as Gold by Elizabeth C. Bunce. I have read several retelling of fairy tales over the years, and this is one of them. This is the story of Rumpelstiltskin and it includes all of the mystery of the original. The protagonists are struggling to keep their home and through what looks like a dream deal, she ends up with a bigger debt than she ever imagines.
