The first two books are nonfiction. They highlight women and their roll in sports and the military. The Belles of Baseball: The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League was written by Nel Yomtov. This book presents the history of baseball for women. From the start of the Girls Professional Baseball League to its end in 1954, women practiced their sport and made history.
The second set of women are highlighted in the book Women With Wings: Women Pilots of World War II by Shannon Baker Moore. We know about the women who went to work in the factories so that the men could go to war, but what about the women who served in the armed forces themselves? Many of those women were there as nurses and secretaries, but they were also spies and pilots. They flew missions behind enemy lines and some lost their lives. This book celebrates their accomplishments.
The third book I have chosen is a novel by Elizabeth Wein, Code Name Verity. Code Name Verity follows the lives of two women during WWII. One a pilot, the other a spy and the bond that they form as they work together. This book will hold your attention as they are shot down behind enemy lines and captured. A glimpse into a part of history that many may not know about.
