As I was weeding, the cover of Buried by Robin Merrow MacCready caught my eye. The cover has the eye of a young girl peeking out from behind a wall of post-it notes with lists of things to do. When I saw that cover, I thought I could certainly relate to someone who is overwhelmed with too many things to do. I have lists and lists and even though I keep crossing things off, the list never ends. But, this is a case where I judged the book by its cover. This book is about dependency and enabling. This book is about the children of alcoholics and the lasting effect that an adult's addiction can have on a young person. Not exactly the book I was expecting, but I've been drawn into the story and I'm glad I saved a book.
I've been weeding books lately. This is one of those jobs that has to be done in order to keep a collection fresh and up-to-date. But, sometimes I will come across a book that I hadn't noticed before or that I forgot that I wanted to read, and I save a book from being withdrawn by reading it myself. That's the case with the book that I want to talk about today.
