Reading is not easy for everyone. Because librarians love to read, we want children to love to read also. So, what is there for the Young Adult struggling reader? One series that is written for Young Adults but takes into account the struggling reader is Retribution.
Retribution is a series of books by a variety of authors. Unleashed is written by Sigmund Brouwer. Jace grew up with an abusive father and a younger brother to protect. Jace feels like he is on his own until he starts to trust and finds there are some people who care about him.
Burned by Natasha Deen has Josie living on the streets after she lost her family and her home to a fire. Now she is seeking revenge on the person she believes to be responsible. This is another story about learning to trust again.
Finally, Exposed by Judith Graves is the story of Raven who believes she owes everything to her boss until she starts to see who he really is. It is only after she can break free from him, that she can succeed.
These books are written for the reader who wants an intense story, but doesn't want to struggle with vocabulary and overwhelming size. Sometimes the physical size of the book can be daunting when the goal is simply to read the entire thing. We need to support the reading efforts of all of our patrons. Happy Reading!
